Why are innovations and superstitions prevalent in mosques, and why do imams and muezzins cling to weak and fabricated hadiths?
Whoever is guided to the should be patient and invite to good with gentleness, and call people to adhere to the Sunnah and emulate the Messenger, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him. Official prayer imams have different situations:
1. Those with correct beliefs who adhere to the Sunnah: Prayer behind them is valid without dispute. 2. Those who ascribe to Islam but hold corrupt beliefs that necessitate their departure from it: Such as believing that the dead can bring benefit or harm, or supplicating to them, or believing that Allah dwells in His creation, or that saints know the unseen, or that a saint is exempt from religious obligations. Prayer behind these individuals is not valid after the evidence has been established against them. 3. Those involved in innovations that do not expel them from Islam: Prayer behind them is valid if they fulfill the conditions for the validity of prayer and perform it without violating its pillars. This is true even if there is someone better than them, as it is permissible for the superior to follow the inferior.
Fabricated hadiths are not permissible to narrate except to clarify their fabrication and warn against them, and the same applies to severely weak hadiths. As for hadiths whose weakness is minor, related to the precision of narrators, and are capable of being enhanced (tahsin), it is permissible to narrate them, find comfort in them, and act upon them in matters of virtuous deeds, provided certain conditions are met.
