The answer

"Honoring one's parents and treating them kindly is obligatory, and obeying them is necessary unless they command disobedience. Disobeying parents is one of the gravest sins. This son has wronged his parents, and to remedy this, he must be kept away from bad company and be provided with righteous companionship. He should be advised with wisdom and gentleness, and made to love his parents. There is no need for physical punishment at this stage; it is better to encourage him to seek religious knowledge and maintain his prayers. The matter can also be presented to a scholar to advise the young man."
