The answer

The phrase "supplication following the prescribed prayers" (Du'a dubur al- al-maktubat) means supplication after them. The command to remember Allah (dhikr) "following every prayer" refers to doing so after the salutations of peace (), by consensus. Al-Tirmidhi narrated from Abu Umamah: It was asked, "O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is most heard?" He replied, "In the last part of the night, and following the prescribed prayers." Al-Tabari narrated from Ja'far al-Sadiq that supplication after a prescribed prayer is superior to supplication after a supererogatory prayer, just as the prescribed prayer is superior to the supererogatory one.
