The question

What is the ruling on dry impurity touching a dry bed, and is it permissible to purify it with the sun? How is a carpet purified from impurity, and what is the sufficient amount of water for that? Is it enough to pour a little water on the impurity on the ground without removing the water? How are clothes stained with impurity washed, and what is the ruling on the water squeezed from them? Is it obligatory to wash the outer garment if the inner clothing is stained with impurity? Does a person or the place he sits on become impure if the impurity is inside the clothes? Is it permissible to delay ghusl (ritual bathing) for someone in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity), and does one who touches him or sits on him become impure?

The answer

A dry impure body does not render impure whatever dry bodies it touches. The sun and dryness do not purify anything from impure bodies except the earth and what is connected to it, according to the Hanafis and Ibn Taymiyyah. Purification is achieved by overwhelming the impurity with water until it covers it. One washing is sufficient to remove the substance of the impurity or to overwhelm it if it is a hukmi (legal) impurity, and squeezing is not required. The water remaining after purification is pure as long as it has not changed due to the impurity. Wiping the impurity with water is not sufficient; rather, water must be poured over it. Impurity is not transmitted merely by doubt, and the entire body does not become impure if only part of it becomes impure. A person in a state of ritual impurity (junub) is pure, and it is permissible for them to delay (ritual bath) as long as they do not fear missing the prayer. Semen is pure according to the preponderant opinion. A garment that has not been properly purified must be rewashed.
