Is the water that splashes from istinja' (ablution after defecation or urination) forgiven for one afflicted with waswas (obsessive doubts), and does this water defile what it touches, such as a hand, clothes, hair, or belongings? What is the ruling of the Four Madhhabs concerning this?

The most beneficial cure for obsessive thoughts is to ignore them. Water splashing from istinja (definition)' (washing after relieving oneself), if it separates unchanged by impurity, is not ruled as impure, and there is no obligation to wash whatever it touches. This is because it is pure (tahoor) and is only harmed by what alters its color, taste, or smell. However, if it separates altered, or unaltered before the purification of the area from the impurity, then it is impure. Things that come into contact with this impurity become defiled, whether the impurity is wet or dry, if the contacting surface is wet or damp.
