Must one perform ablution for supererogatory and traditional prayers?

Purity (ablution or dry ablution) is a prerequisite for every prayer, whether obligatory or supererogatory, except for an excuse that permits dry ablution. This is by agreement of the scholars and the texts of the Qur’an and Sunnah (definition). However, they differed on the prerequisite of purity for the prostration of recitation, with the majority stipulating it, whereas purity is not obligatory for the prostration of thankfulness, according to the more correct opinion.
