What is the ruling on someone who bought an Udhiyah while in debt, then the Udhiyah died before it was slaughtered?

The Udhiyah (definition) (sacrifice) is a confirmed Sunnah (definition) for whoever can afford it. Paying off a debt, whether immediate or deferred, takes precedence over the Udhiyah if one does not have other money to settle the debt. However, if the sacrificer has already purchased the Udhiyah, he is not required to sell it to pay off the debt.

If the designated Udhiyah animal dies, some scholars say that it is obligatory to buy a replacement for it, while others say that it is not obligatory at all. It is preferable to buy another Udhiyah if it does not burden the sacrificer and does not delay the payment of immediate debts whose creditors do not permit their deferral.
