The question

How can one avoid falling into omen-taking and pessimism, while understanding the prophetic hadith "Suhail came, may Allah make things easy..." in light of practices such as associating players' performance with name similarities or linking victory to wearing a specific shirt?

The answer

A servant protects himself from Tatayyur (superstitious belief in omens) by realizing that it is a blameworthy, pre-Islamic custom and an act of polytheism. This is achieved by relying on Allah and saying: "O Allah, there is no good except Your good, and no Tatayyur except Your Tatayyur, and there is no god besides You." As for optimism, it is not blameworthy. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, liked good omens and disliked Tatayyur; because a good omen is a good opinion of Allah, while Tatayyur is a bad opinion of Him without cause.
