The answer

Firstly: Purity is recognized by two signs: the cessation of blood and the dryness of the site, or the discharge of the white fluid (al-qassah al-bayda').

Secondly: The discharge of brownish or yellowish fluid after a valid state of purity is not considered menstruation, based on the saying of Umm Atiyyah: "We did not consider brownish or yellowish fluid after purification as anything [i.e., as menstruation]."

Thirdly: If the questioner performed and fasted based on her purity, and then doubted it, she should not pay attention to the doubt, in order to ward off whispers (waswasah).

Fourthly: If the questioner hastened in performing ghusl and fasting before she had become pure, and then performed ghusl for Eid with the intention of the Eid ghusl, not for menstruation, then her purification is valid, Allah willing. She is not required to repeat her purification or prayers. This is the view of the Hanbalis, especially to repel whispers and doubts. Thus, whoever intended a recommended ghusl while forgetting the event that necessitated ghusl, then it suffices for the obligatory (ghusl). Ignorance of what necessitates ghusl takes the ruling of forgetfulness, so purification is valid by means of the recommended ghusl.
