How can one overcome the destructive psychological and social effects of magic, which have caused inappropriate behavioral changes and ruined reputations, and how can one deal with suspicions towards potential perpetrators?

Affliction can be a good thing, and through patience, sins are expiated and ranks are elevated. Supplication is the weapon of the believer to remove affliction, as Allah Almighty said: "And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him." Affliction may be a punishment for a sin, so repentance is obligatory; "And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is because of what your hands have earned." Its cause might be an organic or psychological illness that requires consulting specialists; "For every disease there is a cure." If it is not a common cause, it might be magic, possession, or the evil eye, and ruqyah (definition) (Islamic exorcism) is beneficial. One must be cautious not to accuse anyone of magic without proof; "Avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin."
