How does God draw near to us by a cubit and an arm's length, and come to us at a run, and does our coming to Him by walking signify acts of obedience?

The Qudsi Hadith (definition): "Whoever draws near to Me by a handspan, I draw near to him by an arm's length; and whoever draws near to Me by an arm's length, I draw near to him by a fathom; and whoever comes to Me walking, I come to him running" is among the texts describing Allah's voluntary attributes, which affirm His volitional actions without specifying "how" or likening Him to creation, in a manner befitting Him, glorified be He, according to the methodology of the Salaf. Allah Almighty draws near to His servants whenever and however He wills. Some scholars are of the view that "running" signifies Allah Almighty's swift acceptance and turning towards His servant, and that His recompense is more perfect than the servant's deed, and that "walking" is used as an example, not exclusively. However, the first opinion, which affirms the attribute literally while negating its modality (how) and likeness, is clearer, safer, and more befitting the methodology of the Salaf.
