Is it permissible to engage in activities such as dancing to the tune of calm music and watching cartoon films (anime) under the pretext of fulfilling psychological desires in a permissible way, and is it permissible to stay overnight in a hotel that serves alcohol and whose women do not observe modesty? What are the legitimate alternatives to these activities? And how can a husband be helped to change his standards to conform to the pleasure of Allah?

The husband's desire for forbidden pleasures, inspired by movies and TV series, is not Islamically sound because it includes forbidden elements, among them music. There is no difference between merely hearing it and actively listening to it, whether intentionally or unintentionally. The husband's claim that he only hears and does not actively listen is a deception from Satan and demonstrates his ignorance of the meaning of the word. As for a man dancing with his wife where no stranger can see them, there is no harm in it as long as it does not involve anything forbidden, such as musical instruments and the like. The ruling on watching animated films has been clarified in previous fatwas.

One should not become engrossed in permissible matters, as they are a hurdle that can lead to the disliked (makruh (definition)) and then to the forbidden (haram (definition)). The husband's claim that he will not feel satisfied unless he experiences everything he has seen is not an excuse, for what Allah has made permissible is sufficient to avert the need for the forbidden.

Staying in hotels that contain objectionable practices is not permissible. The couple can enjoy recreational trips in places free from indecencies and delight in what Allah has made permissible between spouses.

The husband is advised to adhere to Islamic law and to be reminded of the Hereafter, and that true pleasure is in Paradise, achieved through obedience to Allah and striving against one's lower self. It is recommended to seek righteous companionship that will assist him in righteousness and piety.
