Is it permissible for a wife to keep her share of her father's inheritance (land) and not give it to her husband, who mistreats her and threatens her with divorce or marriage to another woman in order to seize the inheritance?
Allah Almighty commanded kindness towards wives in the Holy Quran and good companionship, and forbade disliking them. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also commanded good treatment of them in the Farewell Pilgrimage and other occasions, affirming that they are captives from whom nothing may be taken except in the case of clear indecency (fahisha mubayyinah), which permits separation (hajr) and non-brutal beating. He also stated that they have rights over their husbands concerning clothing and food, and he forbade harming them or oppressing them, whether financially or emotionally. Therefore, it is not permissible to beat her except to remedy insubordination (nushooz) after exhausting other means. Nor is it permissible to take her money except with her full consent, because taking money without her consent contradicts religion, and oppression will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection. It is also not permissible to prevent them from connecting with their relatives.
A wife has the right to dispose of her money without being obliged to give any of it to her husband. She must obey her husband in what is right and not leave the house without his permission. The wife is advised to be patient to preserve the family, and she may give her husband from her money to win his affection.
