How does one fast and pray when their day is extremely long or short, or when their day and night last six months?
Those who reside in lands where night and day are distinct within a 24-hour period, but where the day is long in summer and short in winter, are obligated to perform the five daily prayers at their legally prescribed times, which are defined by their signs, and to fast from the break of dawn until sunset. As for those who reside in lands where night and day are not distinct, such as lands where the day or night lasts for months, they must estimate the times for the five prayers and fasting based on the closest land to them where night and day are distinct. This is based on the about the Dajjal, in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded the estimation of prayer times.
