If the divorced woman is an adult and mature, she is entitled to housing and to go out for permissible needs, provided she is covered and free from suspicion. She is not required to seek her father's permission. Her travel, however, must be permissible, safe, and accompanied by a mahram (definition). The guardian must be firm if there is doubt or corruption, and prevent her from anything that harms her, for children are trusts with their fathers. If the father exerts his utmost effort and is unable to prevent her, he is not sinful, but others among her family must work to protect her. The guardianship ofضم (ضم is transliterated as "damm" or "ḍamm," referring to the act of taking someone into one's care or custody) belongs to anyone among her relatives who can be trusted with her and is able to protect her, because preventing evil is obligatory for anyone who is able to do so. If her father prevents her for a valid reason and she disobeys him, she is sinful for her disobedience.
