Should I accept as a husband a man who has proposed to me, but deals in usury?

Usury is one of the major sins whose prohibition is not hidden from a Muslim. The one who consumes usury and the one who feeds it are both cursed and bear the same sin. Many may fall into this transgression, and what is more dangerous is trivializing its prohibition. Regarding a man who deals with usury proposing marriage, his situation varies:

- If he will continue his dealings with usury after marriage, we do not advise accepting him as a husband.

- If he is remorseful and repentant, there is no objection to accepting him, and he should be helped to sincere repentance and to rid himself of the usurious loan.

One who deals with usury should not be accepted as a husband unless he declares repentance from that forbidden act.
