How can one benefit from the little time available for worship and good deeds in the work environment?
Time is a person's life, and it is very important to preserve it and utilize it in good endeavors and righteous deeds. A single minute can be invested in great things that increase one's lifespan, giving, and good deeds, such as:
Reciting Surat Al-Fatiha (3) times, or Surat Al-Ikhlas (20) times. Reciting a page from the Quran or memorizing a short verse. Saying "La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, wa Huwa 'ala kulli shayin Qadeer" (There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things competent) (20) times. Saying "Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi" (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him) (100) times, or "Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, Subhan Allah Al-Azeem" (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him, Glory be to Allah, the Most Great) (50) times. Saying "Subhan Allah, walhamdulillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wa Allahu Akbar" (Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest) more than (18) times. Saying "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah" (There is no might or power except with Allah) more than (40) times. Saying "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah) approximately (50) times. Saying "Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, adada khalqihi, wa rida nafsihi, wa zinata 'arshihi, wa midada kalimatih" (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him, as many as His creation, as much as pleases Him, as much as the weight of His Throne, and as much as the ink of His words) more than (15) times. Seeking forgiveness more than (100) times. Delivering a brief speech, or sending blessings upon the Prophet (50) times. Expressing gratitude to Allah, loving Him, fearing Him, hoping in Him, and longing for Him. Reading more than two pages from a useful book. Maintaining kinship ties via phone. Supplicating for whatever you wish. Greeting and shaking hands with a number of people. Forbidding evil or enjoining good, or offering advice. Comforting someone in distress, or removing harm from the path.
These actions do not require great effort or purity, and they can be done anywhere and at any time. They are among the greatest causes of happiness, inner peace, and the removal of worries.
