Laziness and idleness are reprehensible in Islamic law, and striving for lawful earning is required, as Allah says: ﴿IT IS HE WHO MADE THE EARTH SUBMISSIVE TO YOU, SO WALK IN ITS REGIONS AND EAT FROM HIS PROVISION, AND TO HIM IS THE RESURRECTION.﴾ Prayer is the pillar of Islam, and maintaining it does not entail laziness, as Allah says: ﴿AND WHEN THE PRAYER HAS BEEN CONCLUDED, DISPERSE THROUGH THE LAND AND SEEK FROM THE BOUNTY OF ALLAH, AND REMEMBER ALLAH OFTEN THAT YOU MAY SUCCEED.﴾ It is not permissible to be negligent in prayer due to being preoccupied with earning, as Allah says: ﴿MEN WHOM NEITHER TRADE NOR SALE DIVERTS FROM THE REMEMBRANCE OF ALLAH AND FROM ESTABLISHING PRAYER AND GIVING ZAKAH. THEY FEAR A DAY WHEN HEARTS AND EYES WILL TURN ABOUT.﴾ One seeks help through patience and prayer concerning matters of religion and worldly life, and frequently remembers Allah so that He may grant strength to the one who remembers Him.
