What is the ruling on supplicating by using the attributes of Prophets, such as "O Allah, grant me the patience of Ayyub"?

Asking Allah Almighty to grant a servant something of the prophets' attributes falls into two categories: First, asking for what Allah has uniquely bestowed upon them, such as miracles, extraordinary favors (karamat), or virtues. This type of supplication is forbidden, as it is an act of transgression and asking for what is impermissible, like requesting the kingdom of Solomon or the station of Al-Waseelah. Second, asking for the prophets' manners, guidance, and to emulate them, such as patience, wisdom, and mercy. This is permissible and recommended because it is a supplication for what Allah has commanded. Nevertheless, it is advisable to adhere to the transmitted supplications and avoid invented ones, which may fall into transgression or contradict the Sunnah (definition).
