What is the way to remain steadfast in obedience and abandon negligence, especially in difficult circumstances, and with repeated attempts to draw closer to Allah?

The servant is obligated to repent and turn to Allah whenever he falls short or commits sins. It is not permissible for him to despair; rather, he must repent whenever he stumbles. Allah has mentioned among the attributes of the pious that when an evil suggestion touches them from Satan, they remember, and when they fall into sin, they repent and seek forgiveness, as in His Almighty saying: "And those who, when they commit an indecency or wrong themselves, remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allah? - and do not knowingly persist in what they have done." Allah has promised forgiveness to whoever repents and seeks forgiveness, as in His saying: "And whoever does evil or wrongs himself then seeks forgiveness of Allah will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful."

To remedy this situation, one must strengthen faith and the desire for uprightness by frequently reading books of encouragement, discouragement, and spiritual refinement, pondering the Holy Quran and its mention of the Hereafter, accompanying righteous women, seeking assistance through supplication in prayer and at times of response, and asking Allah for uprightness and guidance.
