Is it permissible for a husband to divorce his wife who does not care for her home and children and spends money carelessly, after he has tried to reform her without success?
Divorce should not be the first solution to a wife's problem, especially when there are six children involved. Rather, the matter should be dealt with wisely and deliberately. Remind her of her responsibility towards her husband, her home, and her children, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The woman is a guardian over her husband’s house and his children, and all of you are guardians and are responsible for your charges." It is possible to mediate through someone she considers respectable from her family so that she may desist from her behavior, repent, and apologize. If she responds, that is what is desired. If she insists, she is considered rebellious.
