What is the interpretation of verses 6 to 10 of Surat Al-Jinn, and to what extent can humans subjugate the jinn?

The verses in Surat al-Jinn discuss the pre-Islamic notion held by some humans of seeking refuge with jinn, which only increased the jinn's arrogance and pride. They also address the jinn's and humans' belief that there would be no resurrection after death, or that Allah would not send a messenger. The verses describe the jinn's attempts to eavesdrop on the heavens and their being pelted with meteors after the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) mission, and their ignorance of what Allah intended for the inhabitants of the earth, whether evil or guidance.
