What is the appropriate age for weaning if the mother is able and the child is responsive?

The appropriate age for weaning is two full years, based on the Almighty's saying: "Mothers shall nurse their children for two whole years" and "and his weaning is in two years." It is permissible to increase or decrease this period if it does not harm the parents or the child, according to the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, suckling is from hunger."
