If it's too late to shave a newborn's head, is it still to be performed as a make-up?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is recommended to shave the newborn's head on the seventh day and to give in charity the equivalent weight of the hair in gold or silver. The shaving should take place after the 'aqiqah sacrifice, based on what Ahmad and Al-Hakim narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to Fatimah: "O Fatimah, shave his head and give in charity silver equivalent to the weight of his hair." If the shaving is missed after the 'aqiqah sacrifice, then its weight should be estimated and given in charity. And if the 'aqiqah is delayed beyond the seventh day, then the hair can be shaved at that time, and its weight given in charity.
