What is the authenticity of the hadith of Mu'adh that recounts the story of Iblis the Accursed visiting the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in which it states: "O people of the house.. do you grant me permission to enter, and do you have a need from me?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said: "Do you know who is calling?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, then said: "This is Iblis the Accursed, may Allah Almighty curse him." Thereupon, Umar ibn al-Khattab said: "Do you permit me, O Messenger of Allah, to kill him?"
This hadith has not been found in the books of Sunnah and آثار (narrations/traditions), and it appears to be one of the fabricated hadiths that have no basis. The Permanent Committee for Issuing Fatwas has issued a fatwa stating that it has no basis and that its dissemination is impermissible.
