We advise performing Istikhara (prayer for guidance) and asking Allah for success. Guardians should not reject a suitor due to his poverty, especially if he is a relative and the woman is wealthy. This becomes even more critical if the engagement has been long and love has developed, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "There is nothing better for two who love each other than marriage." Wealth is transient, and marriage can be a means to richness. Allah the Almighty says: "If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty." Ibn Mas'ud said: "Seek richness in marriage." Allah has promised to help the one who marries seeking chastity. Seek Allah's help in convincing your family, and seek assistance from those who influence them. If they insist on refusing, and the suitor is suitable, you may resort to the Sharia court.
