Is a person who is sexually deviant (a sodomite) considered a Muslim, and is it permissible to marry him in the hope of his repentance? Is it permissible to discuss sexual matters with him for the purpose of reforming him? What is the effect of his returning to his behavior after marriage on the marital relationship? And does he have an accepted repentance with Allah if he repents sincerely?

Sodomy is a major sin and deserves the severest punishments. The perpetrator does not become an unbeliever by committing it unless he deems it permissible. However, merely committing it while acknowledging its prohibition does not expel a Muslim from Islam. It is not permissible to marry a person who commits sodomy unless he has made sincere repentance, and a mere promise of repentance is not sufficient. A woman should seek a righteous man. Sodomy, like other sins, is open to repentance.
