Is a divorce valid that was issued under coercion and the threat of scandal and causing harm, especially when the husband had no intention of divorce?

If a man is coerced into divorcing by his wife threatening him with scandal, or threatening to harm herself, such as by throwing herself out of a car, and he overwhelmingly believes she will carry out her threat, then the divorce does not take effect. This is because it is a divorce under duress. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) issued fatwas to this effect, and scholars have cited the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, Allah has forgiven my Ummah for their mistakes, their forgetfulness, and what they are coerced into." Also, whoever falls into sin must repent to Allah, for sins are the cause of worries and misery.
