What is the ruling of Islamic law concerning a marriage in which it became clear that the wife had a relationship with another man and still does after the marriage, and she despises her husband and married him for financial gain? Should he divorce her, advise her, or inform her family?

The fundamental principle is to have a good opinion of a Muslim and interpret their actions in the best possible light, especially between spouses. One must be deliberate and not rush to accuse the wife of being in a relationship. The best approach is for the husband to be frank with his wife, using expressions that convey a good opinion. If it is confirmed with certainty that she is still in a relationship, he must take measures to prevent her from contacting him, while following the divine remedy for a rebellious wife: admonishing her, then forsaking her in bed, then striking her a non-injurious blow. If she does not desist, the people of intellect and sound judgment from his family and her family should mediate, even if it leads to separation and divorce. One should make abundant supplications, strive to reconcile, and not hasten to divorce. If these measures do not work with her, then there is no harm in divorcing her; in fact, it becomes necessary if she insists on the forbidden relationship, due to the hadith about the dayouth (cuckold) who condones wickedness in his family.
