Can a person cause others to be afflicted by the evil eye (Ayn) and envy (Hasad), even if they say "Masha'Allah" (as God willed it), due to their feeling of dissatisfaction with their life or their sense of inadequacy?

We advise you to refrain from delving into matters that do not concern you, to turn away from idle talk, to cast down your gaze from what others possess, to seek help through prayer and supplication, and to be content with what Allah has allotted you. This is based on the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "From the excellence of one's Islam is his leaving alone that which does not concern him," and in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: "Certainly will the believers prosper Those who are during their prayer humbly submissive And those who turn away from ill speech," and His saying: "And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [various] categories of them - the splendor of worldly life - that We might test them thereby. But the provision of your Lord is better and more lasting."

We also recommend that you regularly supplicate for blessings and say: "Masha'Allah, la quwwata illa billah" (What Allah wills [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allah) whenever you see someone blessed with a bounty, so that you may be safe from harming people. This is based on the Prophet’s saying: "There should be no harm nor reciprocating harm," and his saying: "If one of you sees something in himself or his brother that pleases him, he should pray for blessings for him, for the evil eye is true."
