Is it permissible to lease land for purposes other than agriculture?

It is permissible to lease land for a permissible purpose such as cultivation, planting, or construction. It is stipulated that the benefit must be specified if the land is suitable for more than one purpose. Scholars have unanimously agreed on the permissibility of leasing land for a known period with gold and silver. The permissibility of leasing land has been established by the Sunnah and the consensus of the followed jurists. The prohibition mentioned in the hadiths regarding leasing land is interpreted as referring to that which involves harm, or selling the fruit before its ripeness, or sharecropping where a specific share is stipulated. It is permissible to lease land with any known amount of money. However, leasing land for an unspecified share of what it produces is prohibited by most scholars due to the uncertainty of the عوض (compensation).
