Is a wife considered disobedient (nashiz) in Islamic law if she takes birth control pills without her husband's knowledge and this is discovered, and is the husband obligated to pay her maintenance (nafaqa) and deferred dower (mu'akhkhar) if he wishes to divorce her for this reason?

A woman is not permitted to use birth control pills without her husband's consent, because procreation is one of the purposes of marriage and a right for both spouses. However, she is not considered disobedient (nashiz) for this, and the husband should not divorce her for it. As for maintenance after divorce: if the divorce is revocable (raj'i), then he must provide maintenance and housing. Scholars differ regarding an irrevocable divorce (ba'in). As for the deferred dowry (mu'akhkhar al-sadaq), it must be paid to her in all cases and becomes due upon divorce.
