Is there no punishment for anyone for any sin, no matter what it is, until the proof is established against him concerning it, or are there some sins for which proof is never established?

Allah does not punish anyone until the proof has been established and the prohibition has reached them, as He, the Almighty, says: {And We would not punish until We had sent a messenger.} (Al-Isra: 15). Furthermore, prescribed punishments (hudud) and discretionary punishments (ta'zirat) are not obligatory except upon one who knows the prohibition and intentionally commits the acts that warrant them. However, for matters that are known to be essential parts of the religion by necessity, such as drinking alcohol and fornication, a claim of ignorance is not accepted, and the perpetrator is punished. If one deems such acts lawful, they commit disbelief.
