What is the authenticity of the hadith that mentions the entry of the angel Jibreel, then the angel of death, upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his being given the choice between remaining in this world and meeting his Lord, and his choosing of "the Most Exalted Companion," and the description of how his soul was seized?

Upon researching the narrations concerning the story of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) passing, no hadith was found mentioning the Angel of Death seeking permission from the Prophet (peace be upon him) with the exact wording cited. While some hadiths with similar wordings have been narrated, they are considered weak or fabricated by scholars. Furthermore, Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir stated that the accounts of the Prophet's death narrated by Al-Waqidi and others contain strong oddities and strangeness, and have weak chains of transmission. As for the Prophet's (peace be upon him) being given the choice between death and staying alive, and his saying, "Rather, the Most Exalted Companion," this is confirmed in the Two Sahihs from the hadith of Aisha. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen affirmed that the story of the Angel of Death coming to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the form of a Bedouin and seeking his permission is not authentic. What is authentic is that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was given the choice between remaining in this world and meeting his Lord, and he chose to meet his Lord.
