To what extent does the bond of kinship (silat al-rahim) extend, and can relatives like the son of the paternal aunt or the grandson of the paternal uncle be an impediment to entering Paradise if one is in disagreement with them or does not interact with them, based on the hadith: "The one who severs the ties of kinship will not enter Paradise"?

The kinship ties that must be maintained and are forbidden to sever, and those whose maintenance is recommended and whose severance is disliked, are determined. The degrees of maintaining ties range from abandoning estrangement to greeting and speaking, according to ability and need.

The warning in the hadith: "A severer of kinship ties will not enter Paradise" is understood to apply to one who severs the obligatory ties, the severance of which is forbidden.

Al-Nawawi clarified that the hadith can be interpreted to mean that a severer of kinship ties who deems severance permissible is an infidel who will abide eternally in Hell, or that he will not enter Paradise with the foremost, but will be delayed as a punishment for him.

The lowest degree of maintaining ties is abandoning estrangement. It is not permissible to ostracize a Muslim for more than three nights, unless the one being ostracized is an infidel or a transgressor. In such cases, boycotting him for the sake of Allah is considered maintaining ties with him, while exerting effort in admonishing him and supplicating for him.
