Is it established that Adnan (to whom the lineage of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, goes back) was the son of Ishmael the Sacrificed, the son of Abraham, the father of the prophets, upon all of them be peace and blessings? And who is Ya'rub? And was Adnan a prophet?

Adnan is from the descendants of Isma‘il ibn Ibrahim, peace be upon them both, without any disagreement among genealogists and historians. His lineage is known to be sound up to this point. Isma‘il is the one intended for sacrifice according to the scholars among the Companions and the Successors, and he was the firstborn of Ibrahim’s children.

Adnan is the son of Adad ibn al-Humaysi‘ ibn Nabit ibn Isma‘il ibn Ibrahim. The prophethood of Adnan has not been established.

Ya‘rub is the son of Qahtan ibn Hud, peace be upon him, and he is the ancestor of the Arab al-Aribah (the pure Arabs).
