How can we reconcile Almighty God's questioning of Jesus, peace be upon him, on the Day of Resurrection about the statement, "Did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as two gods besides Allah?'" with His prior knowledge of what his people did, especially since he will descend at the end of time to unify the Ummah?

The reason for Allah's question to Jesus: "Did you say to the people: Take me and my mother as two gods besides Allah?" is the extremism that occurred regarding Jesus and his mother, and to establish proof against the extremists that Jesus is innocent of their claims and did not command them to do so.

Scholars differed on the time Jesus will be addressed with (If You punish them, they are Your servants): some said it will be when he is raised to heaven, and others said it will be on the Day of Judgment.

The question includes a threat and a rebuke to the Christians, and it affirms Jesus's servitude to Allah, refuting their claims. And His saying: "Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise" is more fitting for the context than (the Forgiving, the Merciful), as it establishes Allah's perfect power and knowledge, and Jesus's disassociation from those upon whom Allah is wrathful.
