Will a person who does not pray and has reservations about religion be rewarded, even though he does much good and helps people with his good deeds? Will a disbeliever be rewarded if he strives for good? And will a person who was born Muslim and leaves Islam after puberty be punished for apostasy, while a person who was born a disbeliever and embraced Islam then leaves it is not punished?

Prayer is the pillar of the religion and its second most important tenet after the Two Testimonies (Shahadatayn). The preponderant opinion is that one who abandons it out of negligence and laziness does not commit an act of disbelief that expels him from the fold of Islam. He will be rewarded for his good deeds and punished for abandoning prayer, unless Allah forgives him. A disbeliever has no reward in the Afterlife; rather, he is recompensed for the good he did in this world. The rulings of apostasy apply to anyone whose Islam has been established.
