What is the ruling on sitting at school desks while students are placing the Mus'haf on them?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If the Mushaf (Qur’an) is in a drawer under a table, there is no objection to sitting on the table, as long as it does not lead to disrespect or denigration of the Mushaf. Al-Shirwani al-Shafi'i holds that the ruling depends on whether the situation is considered an insult to the Mushaf or not. As for the Hanafis, it is disliked to sit on something that contains a Mushaf unless it is for the purpose of preserving it. If the Mushaf is placed on top of the table and a person sits on the edge of the table, there is no harm in that, as there is no disrespect involved.
