What is the ruling of the Sharia regarding a mother's refusal to marry off her daughter to a young man of good character and religious devotion, and who is well-off, under the pretext that he has been previously married and divorced, and under the pretext that he is not from a wealthy family, even though she acknowledges that he is the best of those who have proposed to her daughter?

A girl should accept a suitor whose religiosity and character she finds pleasing, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "If there comes to you one whose character and religiosity you find pleasing, then marry him [to your daughter]. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption." This command is for recommendation, not obligation. If the girl accepts and the suitor is suitable, her guardians do not have the right to prevent her without a valid reason; otherwise, it would be a case of 'adhl (unjust prevention), and she has the right to take her case to a judge. The suitor is advised to withdraw and seek someone else if the family is not pleased.
