What is the ruling of the Sharia on the marriage of a religious young man of good character to my daughter without the consent of his father, who refuses this marriage for worldly reasons, knowing that the daughter and the young man are compatible and wish to marry?

The father's right is immense, and showing dutifulness to him is one of the greatest religious obligations. Part of being dutiful to him is obeying and pleasing him. It is advised not to marry a woman whom the father disapproves of, as Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) did when his father ordered him to divorce his wife, whom he loved, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) approved of that. If this applies to a married man, it applies even more so to a suitor. However, if the suitor cannot find a woman better than her in religiosity and character, and he fears falling into haram (unlawful acts), then there is no blame upon him to marry her. In such a case, he must show dutifulness to his father, treat him gently, and strive to please him.
