The answer

The best places on Earth are Mecca, then Medina. However, for individuals, the best place is where a person's faith and obedience to Allah increase. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah says that the earth does not sanctify anyone; rather, a servant's deeds sanctify him. Mecca is distinguished by virtues such as the multiplication of the reward for prayer therein, its exclusivity for Hajj and Umrah, and its sanctity since the creation of the heavens and the earth. As for Medina, it is the home of the Hijra, and from it conquests were launched. In it, verses of rulings were revealed, and it contains the Prophet's Mosque, the Noble Rawdah, and the blessed valley of al-Aqiq. It has been reported that faith retreats to it, and Allah will destroy whoever intends evil upon its people. Thus, happiness is for those who live in Mecca or Medina, and for those who fear Allah in any place.
