What is meant by the condition of the hijab, "that it should not be an adornment in itself," and does this contradict the wearing of colored garments by the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?

The meaning of the Shar'i hijab not being an adornment in itself is that it should not be designed to attract attention or be a display of beauty. It has been reported that some of the Prophet's wives, peace be upon him, wore saffron-colored garments, such as Aisha when she was in a state of ihram. This does not contradict the condition that the clothing should not be an adornment.
