What is the ruling regarding a suitor telling his fiancée: "You are divorced, you are divorced, you are divorced" in a state of anger, knowing that they remained in continuous contact?

If it was merely an engagement, then the man is a stranger (non-mahram) with whom seclusion is impermissible, and his divorce is not effective due to the absence of a marital relationship. However, if he had entered into a valid marriage contract with her, then he is her husband and his divorce is effective. If he had consummated the marriage with her, then three divorces would take effect, unless he intended emphasis rather than establishment (of new divorces). Ibn Taymiyyah held that three divorces pronounced in a single utterance or in multiple utterances within one period of purity (Tuhr) without reconciliation are considered a single divorce. If he had not consummated the marriage with her, then only one divorce takes effect, regardless of whether he intended emphasis or establishment, because an unconsummated wife becomes irrevocably divorced with a single divorce.
