The question

What should a non-Arab girl who has recently embraced Islam do if a young man of good character and religious commitment proposes to her, and she has sought Allah's guidance (istikhara) but her heart is not at ease, bearing in mind the Hadith: "If someone whose religion and trustworthiness you approve of comes to you, then marry him"?

The answer

It is disliked to not marry off a woman of religious commitment and good character if a suitable man proposes to her, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Three things should not be delayed: Prayer when its time comes, a funeral when it is ready, and a single woman when a suitable match is found for her." The girl should perform Istikhara (prayer for guidance), and if she feels reassured, she should put her trust in Allah. If she does not feel comfortable, she is not sinful for rejecting him, for "Souls are like recruited soldiers; those that recognize each other will harmonize, and those that do not recognize each other will differ."
