Did a divorce take place if the husband said to his wife, "The matter is in your hands," and then the wife said, "I am divorced," and the husband then said, "It is done"?

Scholars have differed on the ruling concerning a wife to whom the matter has been entrusted, if she says: "I am divorced" – whether it constitutes a divorce or not. Some Hanbalis held that it does not occur, while others said it occurs with intention. However, the apparent ruling is that divorce occurs with that phrasing, and this is what Hanafī and Malikī scholars have explicitly stated, for any word suitable for the husband to pronounce divorce is suitable for the wife to respond with. Therefore, the wife is divorced by her saying: "I am divorced."
