What is the ruling regarding my marriage in the Sharia court to a Muslim man of good character who is disabled, after my family's rejection of this marriage and their intention to change my life and sever my relationship with good companions? And what is my stance towards my family, especially with my father's erroneous ideas about Islam and their stance towards my sister who apostatized? And should I continue to boycott them?
A woman should strive to marry a man of religious commitment and good character. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If someone whose religious commitment and character you approve of proposes to marry your daughter, then marry her to him; otherwise, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption."
Marriage is not valid without a guardian, based on the Prophet’s, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "There is no marriage except with a guardian," and his saying: "Any woman who marries without the permission of her guardian, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid... If they disagree, then the ruler is the guardian of whoever has no guardian." If a guardian prevents his ward from marrying a suitable match whom she has accepted, he is deemed to be obstructing her (عاضلاً), and the guardianship transfers from him to the next in line among the agnates. Since it is common for guardians to refuse marriage in such cases, there is no harm for the woman to present her case to the Sharia judge. If they refuse (the guardians), the judge himself will marry her. Your marriage contract is valid and should not be annulled, because the Sharia judge undertook it after your father's obstruction.
It is obligatory for you to be dutiful to your parents, treat them kindly, and maintain ties with them, even if by speaking to them over the phone, until their hearts calm down and you are able to visit them, for the rights of parents are great. You must not cut ties with them. Rather, strive to calm them, reassure them, and endear yourself to them with money and gifts to win their hearts, and ask Allah Almighty for guidance for your family.
