What is the ruling on purchasing carpets, water tanks, chairs, and lights and making them an endowment (waqf) or ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah) for use in condolences outside the home due to its small size and the large number of visitors?

Gathering for condolences in the manner described is reprehensible (makrooh), and dedicating an endowment (waqf) for this purpose is not permissible (mashroo'), because an endowment is only for charitable causes. It is not valid to create an endowment for something permissible or reprehensible, due to the absence of nearness to Allah (qurbah). A condition for the endowed property is that it must be for a known charitable cause or an act of righteousness. Therefore, an endowment is not valid for something that is not an act of nearness to Allah, whether it be a sin or not.
