When does a pregnant woman become irrevocably divorced from her husband such that he cannot take her back except with a new contract and dower, and when is it permissible for him to take her back if it was the first pronouncement of divorce? A pregnant woman divorced with a revocable divorce becomes irrevocably divorced upon the complete delivery of her burden, as Allah Almighty says: (And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they deliver their burdens). Her husband may take her back before delivery by any action that indicates resumption of marital relations.

She is entitled to maintenance during the period of pregnancy until she gives birth. If she gives birth before he takes her back, she becomes irrevocably divorced from him immediately upon delivery, and her maintenance ceases. However, he must provide for his child, and she is entitled to a nursing wage according to the majority of scholars.

The obligatory maintenance is estimated according to the husband's financial situation, whether rich or poor, while taking into account the living conditions of the country. Its specific amount cannot be determined, and if there is a dispute regarding it, the Sharia court is the authority to decide the matter.
