What is the concept of social compatibility between the two parties in marriage from the perspective of religion, does it include compatibility between the two families, and what are the religious foundations for judging this compatibility?

Equality between spouses in educational, cultural, financial, and social levels is important for creating understanding and strengthening the marital bond. However, Islamic law prioritizes religion above all other considerations, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "A woman is married for four things: for her wealth, for her lineage, for her beauty, and for her religion. So, succeed with the one who is religious, may your hands be soiled."

The issue of compatibility (kafa'ah) in marriage is a matter of jurisprudential disagreement, but what is considered is religious compatibility. This is considered from the man's perspective, meaning that the man seeks to be compatible with the woman. Compatibility in matters other than religion is not a condition for the validity of the marriage. A woman may consent to marry someone who is not compatible in non-religious aspects. What Ibn al-Qayyim emphasized is that religious compatibility is fundamental and complete: a Muslim woman should not be married to a disbeliever, nor a chaste woman to an immoral man.
